How ICO makes a difference in lives

Words of kids, a teacher, leaders & a supporter. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Kids Tell how NaTURE HAS INSPIRED THEM

“I like this nature idea,” said a young hiker from Walnut Community Center on an ICO outing to First Creek at Red Rock Canyon.

“What I like most was to actually step away from city life, slow things down, and exhale . . . one with nature,” said a young adult from Quiet Storm Agency during a spring trip to Red Rock Canyon’s Potato Knoll.

As we picked up some litter, "We are saving the world!” said a girl from the Urban League’s 100 Academy on Red Rock’s Lost Creek Discovery Trail.

“Today I learned ways to visit Mother Nature without leaving a trace,” said a client of the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth who visited the Deer Creek Trail at Mt. Charleston.

“This was the best day ever,” said one of seven kids, ages 7 to 13, from Pearson Community Center after a hiking and climbing at the Valley of Fire State Park.

“Watching faces light up in wonder and amazement gives the students energy and life they never knew they had.” West Prep High teacher Nick Barnes

"Experiencing the outdoors gives city kids a new world view."

"It's our job to get kids outdoors and into nature to share with them what is already theirs."

"Sharing the outdoors with young people empowers them to improve their physical and mental health."

"Teaching kids to respect nature gives them a chance to fall in love with the outdoors and be the earth’s friend for life."

"Challenging youth in nature can positively transform their self-image and celebrates their potential."

"Studies show that children who have had plenty of meaningful nature experiences, such as hiking and camping, are far less likely to get involved with drugs and alcohol and more likely to succeed in life when diligence and determination are key factors (in just about everything)! I am happy you are working to touch the lives of these children in this way." —Beeta, ICO supporter
